Nature Has All The Answers

Ever thought why we arrived on this earth naked and with a sun in the sky?

Yes the two of us are a match made in heaven.

Dad taught me at an early age how important the sun was to our health and he never wore suntan cream despite spending the best part of his day outside in every weather. He believed the sun was to be enjoyed and taught me it was vital to health and essential to grow our own food

“If it’s good for the garden it’s good for me too.” He would say.

The garden represented too the roots that connected me to the earth. The distance from garden to plate was just a walk and anything else we ate was sourced from the countryside around us. The family rituals of eating together for every meals instilled in me a deep connection and a love of food and the way it could bring people together.

No one left the table until everyone had finished eating desert so like the rising and setting of the sun it gave my childhood safety and comfort. Food to me was more than nourishment, it gave me roots and love and represented family and togetherness. The rituals of setting the table, pouring the full glasses of red wine for my parents and lighting the candles were like meditation, calming, soothing and grounding.

In summer as a child I loved to be in the garden picking. I didn’t care about the soil that crept into my pants or the dirt that caught in my fingernails as my fingers dig down deep into the cold damp soil. I liked the earthy smell when I tried to brush it off and pushing my hat up that had sneaked down over my eyes the dirt would smear over my face. I took my time stroking the furry coats of the fat broad beans. Holding them up to the sun I would try to guess how many smooth beans it contained. Then I would squeeze them open and try to catch them in my container one by one.

I grew up seeing the sun as a vital part of life and intrinsic to health and energy and at every opportunity I would be outside and under it’s warming rays. In winter it was the sun lamp and a trip to the sunbed. Yes shock horror the sun bed! But actually low levels of Vitamin D are more dangerous.

The ONLY way our bodies manufacture Vitamin D is by natural means- by getting some of those delicious rays directly on to our skin. Most people think of sunscreen as that wonderful thing to prevent skin cancer when in fact the reverse is true. The chemical concoction that so many of us slather onto our skin then gets baked into our skin and pretty quickly gets absorbed into the blood stream. It’s this toxicity you need to worry about.

That is the beautiful thing about the writing of my memoir. It has brought me full circle to where I am today. Writing about my childhood where there wasn’t any layers of anything or anyone else I can see I was nature and being here creating my own garden I am right back where I started. Writing is one of the biggest healers and of finding a way through any obstacle and difficulty.

If you are curious how to start with finding your way back to natural health and how to start writing your life stories to heal then reach out to me in the comments. Nature is who we are so this is where you find the answers to everything. Pretty simple but we seem to have made it complicated
